But now that the weather’s getting cooler, things get a little trickier. Suddenly, we’re dealing with thicker fabrics, tight boots, and layers that make quick prosthetic adjustments more complicated.

💡 A few outfit tips that can make dressing easier:

– Elastic waistbands that move with you and stay comfortable sitting or walking.
– Zippers near your prosthesis for quick access or socket checks.
– Stretchy fabrics that don’t fight your movement.
– Smart layering. Thin, flexible layers instead of bulky ones so you can remove layers as needed.

Dealing with sores and an ill-fitting socket must be one of the hardest parts of being an amputee. It's frustrating when you want to be active, walk, or just live your day, but every step is a reminder that something’s not quite right. Some days it’s a little rub, other days it feels like your socket was made for someone else.

If you're dealing with this, you're not alone.
We’ve learned a few things the hard way:

Listen to your skin — redness, hot spots, or discomfort are signs to stop and check things out.
Don’t push through pain, it usually makes things worse.

Talk to your prosthetist — even small adjustments can make a huge difference.

Give yourself grace — healing takes time, and some days, rest is the best choice.

It’s okay to be annoyed, tired, or over it. But don’t let that stop you from speaking up and seeking better solutions. You deserve a socket that fits you, not just your limb, but your life.

Here are some tips to stay cool and comfortable in the heat:

✅ Use antiperspirant (aluminum-free if you have sensitive skin) on your residual limb. Just check with your prosthetist first.
✅ Change liners or socks more often to keep things dry.
✅ Try moisture-wicking sleeves (liner-liner) that absorbs sweat from the skin.
